Elizabeth Berg and Denise Norton Present: Cooking Up a Story
September 23, 2017

A writing and cooking class (includes dinner) on the same day! The writing class will offer a talk on how to write quickly and effectively by Elizabeth Berg, who has published 22 novels, two collections of short stories, and four works of non-fiction.  You will hear about where inspiration comes from, how to create rich characters, what makes for good dialogue, the importance of place, some thoughts about plot, and how to put pen to paper and not look up! Our goal is for you to end up with a completed rough draft of a short story or essay in one day.

You will also have a cooking class, featuring comfort foods. Here's how the day will go:

10am-noon Hear a mini-lecture on writing and do a few exercises. Coffee, tea, and baked goods provided.
12 noon You'll be given a picnic lunch to take with you while you go and write your piece--quickly!-- using the tips you've been given.
3 pm Return to share your story with the group
5 pm Cocktails, followed by a cooking class with the amazing Denise Norton, former owner of Flavour Cooking School.
8 pm Goodbye and thank you!

Your dinner will include:

cream of asparagus soup
Caesar salad with easy-peasey blender dressing
40-clove garlic chicken (with a lesson on how to make it)
perfect garlic mashers (with a lesson on how to make them)
ridiculously good apple crisp

A delicious way to top off your writing day!
